JR on Floating
I run for many reasons. I run to stay active. I run to explore trails. I run to compete with others. And I run to clear my mind. The first mile is always a warm up. During that time I think about my day, the problems I may have and what I need to do fix them. Some runs it takes longer depending where I am mentally and what's going on in my life. Once I get that figured out I focus on my run. I lift my knees, drive forward and get after it.
I am able to unwind, focus on my breathing and continue forward.
Running is very similar to floating. The first 10 minutes I lay in the tank thinking about all the stress and other distractions in my life. I think about the goals I have and how I'm going to achieve them. After a while I'm able to let go and focus on relaxing my body and my breathing. Once I'm able to do that I am in zone. I lay quietly in the tank and with my mind shut off.
Floating has many benefits when it comes to running, both physical and mental. Going on a run after a hour float is one of my favorite things to do. I am relaxed and I have no distractions. I immediately get in the flow of running. Not only does it help mentally but physically too.
My body is always beat up after a race. After putting it all out on the course, my legs are stiff, my knees ache and my hips are tight. Being able to float and rest my body has helped me recover from those runs. After a float I'm walking normal and the stress on my body feels like it's gone. I've noticed I'm able to run the day after a float without pain.
