If you've ever had a perfect float session before, you know the feeling: you lose your limbs somewhere in space, the mind drains of its thoughts like a bucket with a hole in the bottom and you can't tell anymore what is air and what is water.
You come out of the tank feeling reborn - like you just visited a masseuse, a therapist and took a 12-hour nap. You're hooked. You want to know how it can be this good every time. Well, here's how you do it...
Before Your Float
24 hours prior: Check your appointment time. Plan your day around minimizing stress. Call ahead to make sure any special requirements are taken care of.
12 hours prior: Avoid caffeine, alcohol, eat healthy and stay hydrated. Get a full night of restful sleep.
4 hours prior: Visualize your pre float routine. Practice your breathing technique. Stretch, do some light excercise, roll out any sore muscles or joints on a foam roller.
2 hours prior: Eat a light snack a few hours prior. Reduce water intake. Meditate for 5-10 minutes.
15 minutes prior: Show up early. Use the bathroom. Grab some water to bring in the room with you. Get comfortable in the lounge and turn off your cell phone. Ensure any special requests like light, sound or temperature have been set correctly.
During your Float
Settle into your room. Disrobe and hang your clothes on the hooks provided. Put in your earplugs and shower without shampoo, conditioner or body wash. Find the neck pillow, spray bottle, washcloth and locate the light and volume buttons.
Find the perfect float position. If you experience tension in the neck, upper back or shoulders, try floating with your hands above or interlocked behind your head. Set the lights and sounds to desired level.
Get into the perfect "float state". The goal is to clear the mind and relax the body. When you get dragged away by thoughts, acknowledge them and breath in through the nose. Release that thought by focusing on your exhale. Sink lower in the water. Relax. Repeat.
After your Float
Exit the tank. Shower, get dressed and get comfortable. You can check out whenever you like but feel free to bask in the post float glow in our lounge. Chat about your experience or just relax.
